I have come to learn that in the last six months, I have suffered from heartburn and acid reflux. This has been a frustrating experience for me. I was told that I was having GERD, but this has not been confirmed. I have tried various treatment options, which have included the prescription drug Nexium and have never suffered from that issue. Nexium works by preventing acid reflux and helps to relieve symptoms. I do not have a history of heartburn or acid reflux. My insurance company did not tell me that I should take Nexium or any other medication for heartburn or acid reflux. I am now able to take my prescription medication and see what is causing my issue. I am taking two different drugs for heartburn and acid reflux. I am considering switching from Nexium to Pepcid for my GERD. I am so thankful that the insurance company has provided me with the option of switching to Nexium instead of Pepcid. The insurance company has not told me that I should take Pepcid or other medication for acid reflux. I am not taking the medication for heartburn, but I do have a family history of gastroesophageal reflux disease and other stomach problems. I am taking the medication for my GERD. The only other medication that has been found to be associated with a serious side effect is the anti-emetics (pimozide). The FDA has never approved it for this use. In my experience, the FDA has not approved either medication for heartburn.
